Sharps on Seahawks, UNDER

Sharps on Seahawks, UNDER

@TheLinemakers

While Patriots -1 is the consensus Super Bowl line around Las Vegas, and most of the early money has been on New England, one prominent bookmaker has a "gut feeling" we'll see things move in the other direction as we approach Sunday's kickoff.

At William Hill U.S., there's been 2.5 times more money bet on the Patriots than on the Seahawks, said director of trading Nick Bogdanovich, whose shop is one of the few in Vegas still dealing the game a pick' em (New England -115).

"We're still high on New England, but I think at some point Seattle money shows up this weekend," he said in a phone conversation with The Linemakers on Sporting News on Wednesday. "It's quiet now, it always is until Friday. It's been trickling in at this point."

The only six-figure Super Bowl bet Bogdanovich has written so far has been on New England.

But, he said, "Every sharp handicapper I've talked to favors Seattle. So I just figure people will realize this is the same Seattle team that destroyed Denver in this game last year. They're still number one in defense.

"I just think Seattle money will show at some point. I could be wrong, I've been wrong before, that's for sure."

The Wynn Las Vegas moved to Patriots -1.5 on Saturday and finally started taking Seahawks money at that line, prompting a move back to -1 on Tuesday at 2:52 p.m. PT.

"We took a bunch of Seahawks action," said John Avello, head oddsmaker at The Wynn. "I wanted to stay at -1.5 for the long haul but couldn't. We had to move. We had quite a bit of sharp action that forced the move. They showed their hand early, and that's kind of what I wanted to do with the high number we had."

As for the total, the number has been bet down across Las Vegas with every shop now at 48, except the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, which is dealing 47.5.

Public money is anticipated on the OVER, though, and could push the total back up.

"I think so," Bogdanovich said. "The sharps really played the UNDER. We opened 49, to 48.5 and now to 48. …. We will always stay on the higher side because the public does bet OVER and we're already high on the OVER. We'll be on the high end of that market and there will always be numbers lower. … But the professionals are definitely on the UNDER."

When in Vegas …

If you're in Vegas for the Super Bowl, Avello has the ability to get his players into one of his property's big Super Bowl parties with free food and drinks – Wynn style. If you walk into his sports book over the weekend, make a wager and ask nicely if you can go to his party, it's a good bet he'll set you up. Johnny is always doing great things for his guests.

Line of the day

“ Since 2010, Seattle has outscored opponents 127-49 in matchups with a closing total of at least 47.5. Those opponents are a who's-who of potent offenses: Denver (twice), New Orleans and Philadelphia. ”
