THE INTRO

Happy birthday to me,
Happy birthday to me,
I'm another year closer to 30 without having my life even remotely figured ooooooooutttt...
Happy birthday to me!

January 11th, the day in which I was born back in 1986.

Of course, the only person that reads this newsletter (my mother) already knows that, so not sure why I bring it up.

In any case, THIS will be my year! I'm going to, uh, change the world. And stuff.

Or just keep picking football games terribly.

Maybe both.

I will celebrate my birthday today with some beer, football, beer, Kings hockey, beer, buddies, and beer.

Because getting older is less depressing with beer. Or is it more depressing? I don't know, I'll be too buzzed to care.

Cheers!

THE PICKS

* - Indicates Outright Upset Pick

SATURDAY

New Orleans (+8.0) @ Seattle (-8.0)
After being flat out humiliated in every facet of the game last time around, I expect a better performance out of the Saints this time. But will it matter? Seattle is nearly invincible at home, and I believe that even on a neutral field the Seahawks are the superior team in this matchup. I don't live giving up 8 points, but in the end I think that Seattle will do its thing on defense and put up enough points to win and cover when it is all said and done.
PICK WITH THE SPREAD: Seattle
PICK WITHOUT THE SPREAD: Seattle
OVER/UNDER 46.5: Under (28-17 Seattle)

Indianapolis (+7.0) @ New England (-7.0)
I'm just going to go nuts here and say that the Colts find a way to upset the Patriots. The weather report indicates a very cold and rainy day which points to the type of game that anything can happen in. New England is obviously the better team, and the Patriots are a perfect 8-0 straight up and 6-2 against the spread at home this year; but Andrew Luck just might be ready to officially put himself into the NFL's elite category with a shocking upset at Foxboro.
PICK WITH THE SPREAD: Indianapolis
PICK WITHOUT THE SPREAD: *Indianapolis
OVER/UNDER 52.0: Under (28-20 Indianapolis)

SUNDAY

San Francisco (-1.0) @ Carolina (+1.0)
This one just feels like a complete coin flip, the type of game that would need all seven games in a best-of-7 series. These two teams are virtually identical in the way that they approach the game, and the winner is going to give Seattle a very serious run for its money next week, assuming the Saints don't pull off a crazy upset. Forced to choose, I guess I'll go with the home team that has had the extra week to rest and prepare; but this one is just going to come down to a big play or two as both teams never give an inch.
PICK WITH THE SPREAD: Carolina
PICK WITHOUT THE SPREAD: *Carolina
OVER/UNDER 42.0: Under (14-13 Carolina)

San Diego (+9.5) @ Denver (-9.5)
I'm actually kind of sold on the Chargers. They've been playing great on both sides of the ball over the last few weeks, and for as bad as Andy Dalton and the Bengals looked last week, the Chargers defense deserves some credit for that. San Diego also has the added bonus of playing this game with nothing to lose as it is Denver receiving all of the pressure in this game. I don't think that Manning and company will let last year's playoff failure repeat itself, but I don't think it's going to be easy, either.
PICK WITH THE SPREAD: San Diego
PICK WITHOUT THE SPREAD: Denver
OVER/UNDER 54.5: Under (28-24 Denver)

THE COLLEGE NICKEL

FINAL RECORD: 41 – 41 – 2 (.500)

Good luck! Thanks for reading!
