Bettors starting to see value on Mayweather

While early action on the upcoming Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao fight was heavy on the underdog Pacquiao, the odds on Mayweather dipped to a point where bettors started to see value and pounced.

The Wynn Las Vegas opened Mayweather the -260 favorite back in December, but money on Pacquiao pushed the price on Floyd to as low as -185. Since then, though, the betting line has moved in the other direction. The Wynn is now dealing Mayweather-215/Pacquiao +185. The odds are the same at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, which got as low as -190 on Mayweather.

"This fight has leveled out," The Wynn's John Avello told The Linemakers on Sporting News. "There's plenty of Mayweather money. This fight is trending north, and what I mean is this line is moving toward (making) Mayweather a stronger favorite than what we had him."

MGM Resorts sports books opened Mayweather a -240 and saw the line bet down all the way to -170 by Pacquiao money, until bettors waiting with Mayweather money finally saw the value.

"It hasn't been anything real big that pushed us, but it's been a large accumulation of cash that has shown recently which forced us to move," said MGM Resorts VP of race and sports Jay Rood.

Bettors have been comfortable laying -200, -205 on Mayweather, according to Avello, and action will keep coming on the still-undefeated champion.

"I think the big bets are gonna come in on Mayweather, and when I say big bets, I mean the six-figure bets will be on Mayweather, but there will be plenty of Pacquiao money, too," he said.

Books across the city, meanwhile, are posting new betting options on the May 2 fight set for MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The Westgate unveiled its list of new props on Sunday night, and Rood is offering an OVER/UNDER scorecard prop for each fighter -- the combined total from the three judges' scorecards.

"We tried it out for the first time in our last big fight and didn't get too much action on it, but I think with this kind of fight it will certainly create some interest," said Rood.

Mayweather has been set at 347.5 and Pacquiao at 336.5.

" Despite both teams' low offensive numbers, bettors pushed the OVER for tonight's Indians-White Sox game from 8.5 to 9. Last week's Trevor Bauer-John Danks matchup had a total set at 7.5, and the last seven meetings between these teams have stayed UNDER. "
