Pump the breaks on high expectations for Winston, Bucs

@TheLinemakers

Football observers seem to be impressed with Jameis Winston's performance in a preseason game against the Bengals last night.  The No. 1 overall draft pick went 8-for-13 for 90 yards passing and also ran for a one-yard touchdown to help his team to a 25-11 win over Cincinnati.

But if you have high expectations for Winston and Tampa Bay this season, pump the breaks, implores veteran bookmaker and handicapper Chris Andrews.

In one of his first pieces as our newest contributor, Chris makes UNDER 5.5 wins on the Bucs one of three NFL season win total plays for the upcoming season.

Chris writes:

"Last season the Bucs were near the bottom of the league in a multitude of measures, both offensively and defensively. That's why they won two games and were awarded the number one draft choice.

"They used that draft choice to select James Winston. The young man could wind up being an all-pro, and I do not question their choice. However, quarterbacks drafted in the first round are no more than a 50-50 proposition. Winston has just as good a chance of being a bust as he does being a star. It will be even more difficult for him to resurrect this franchise in his first year under center.

"The Bucs did next to nothing in the draft to address their defensive needs. However, to be fair, they signed some free agents who might help. Might.

"Nonetheless, according to my preseason ratings, this team will be favored in no more than two games all season and will be double-digit underdogs in up to seven contests.

"Sorry, Bucs fans. Your team would have to triple last season's win total to beat me. I'm going UNDER 5.5 wins and taking the plus money that comes with it."
